Yes, in order to play Webkinz you must buy their stuffed animal. It has some sort of code on it that you must enter in order to play the site. A year after the date you sign up you'll have to buy another pet or your account will be deleted.

That seems pretty rude, it sounds like a scam to get as much money as the world has to offer. That's smart!

They have changed the rules a little bit (you can keep you account alive with the mini pets), but it's definitely become less popular. I think you can now pay a fee without buying a stuffed critter, but I'm not sure.

The Webkinz eStore? I just checked it out. 
They apparently sell items you can't buy in the store in Webkinz, but they cost actual dollars and not the regular KinzCash. I've been learning a lot from WebkinzInsider. They have a lot of members and I think that WebkinzInsider is more popular than Webkinz. I wish I could see how many members actually go on that. I've seen many Webkinz around in the lower school. I think they are a little ugly, which makes me glad the high school is away from the lower school. LoL.
