Artix Entertainment

AdventureQuest, Mechquest, Dragon Fable, all are owned by the same big company, and it shows. As the review read, a lot of the game is grinding, pure continuous grinding. Need to finish a quest? Beat a monster. Need to fight in the war? Beat a monster. Need to light a candle? You can almost be sure you'll have to fight a monster.

The benefit of it, is, as the site says, it's a lunchtime sized game. Hop to the site, put in your name and password, select a character, go in, quest, and you're done. The lack of needing to roam and explore does simplify a large section of the game.

The game doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a point in favor in my opinion. DragonFable is more plot oriented, and MechQuest is the newest iteration, with a lot of extras, but Adventurequest still remains a popular game.

Personally, I enjoyed Adventurequest for a while, and am a guardian, although I haven't played in... a year. Roughly. The news on the front page grows and grows and grows, so I may very well be several months of play time behind the average player.

It's a fun game, a good time waster, and while a bit repetitive can keep you occupied for several hours very easily. What did you think about it?

Re: Artix Entertainment

I'd have to agree... I only played AdventureQuest, of the three. I enjoyed the artistic style and how low the barrier to entry but it didn't manage to keep my attention.

Re: Artix Entertainment

I played Adventure Quest for a brief time, but I would never have considered becoming a Guardian because I simply do not like it enough.

I agree with your post, Argeth. One of the things people do on that site is hop back and forth on it, seeing as it isn't too involving.

I never tried any of the other sites, because I saw Dragon Fable played by a friend and thought it looked awful XD

The website could be cool to a gamer that enjoys the fact that you always have something to do... but I certainly do think the repetitiveness is a problem.

Re: Artix Entertainment

I remember playing both AQ and DF...

DF:
I played this for quite a while, and the reason why was because there was one type of equipment that was really cool -- the DOOM equips. And once I had enough money to get them (By that time I ws around level 22), they were... pretty bad. Not to mention half the monsters were resistant to the elemental damage. So I quit because
a) The battle was so monotonous.
b) The equips! Terrible!

AQ: Played this shortly after DF, quit because of the premium benefits which basically make it pay-to-play. ~_~

"The Game."
Succinctly put by a yearbook signer.

Re: Artix Entertainment

I played Adventure Quest once just to try it. I really didn't find it much fun because as you said, "Need to finish a quest? Beat a monster. Need to fight in the war? Beat a monster." I found it dull and repetitive.
